The Organic Shandy, Chennai’s first organic store, was founded in 1998 by farmers Hari Sethuraman and P.B. Murali. The Sunday Shandy began as a weekly farmers’ market, with space being provided free to genuine organic farmers from nearby villages to market their produce. It has now grown into a leading marketplace for organic fruits, vegetables, grains, spices and dairy. Sourcing directly from farmers and artisans across India, The Shandy supplies fresh, safe and authentic organic produce to customers, retailers, and institutions nationwide.
The Shandy’s flagship product is its award-winning PGS-certified Organic Mangoes, cultivated at the Punnamai Orchard in Cheyyur, Tamil Nadu. Spread over 70 acres, the orchard has 6,000 mango trees along with sapota, coconut, banana, paddy, chillies, sesame, groundnuts, lime and vegetables. Entirely chemical-free, with a rich soil, the farm has been a model for organic farming in India, thriving as a forest ecosystem that supports diverse birds and wildlife.
